Hope

hope

[noun] A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing.

[verb] want something to happen or be the case

We have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor for the soul. Hebrews 6:19a

The “this” in Hebrews 6:19 is indicative of the following:

(1) The finished work of salvation through Jesus Christ for all who truly believes.

(2) The promised reward in this life to all who truly believe and place their faith in Jesus Christ (relationship with God, abundant life, joy, and satisfaction, The Holy Spirit, transformation).

(3) The promised reward after death to all who truly believe and place their faith in Jesus Christ  (i.e. heaven. Perfect fellowship with God due to sin being eliminated, perfect peace, perfect bodies, perfect paradise for all of eternity). This also includes the special rewards that we obtain for our faithfulness to God and His mission on earth.

The hope that Jesus has firmly planted in heaven should serve as an anchor for our storm-tossed souls and keep us from drifting away from God. After all, we can put our hope in many different things and people, but Jesus is the only unfailing anchor!

May my hope blog post encourage you to grab hold of, or remember and return to the anchor that is present in Jesus. Trust me, I often forget that Jesus is the unfailing anchor; but i’m thankful for His spirit that always reminds me and gives me the grace to believe over and over again.
